don't quit ~

This is the day the Lord has made ~ let us rejoice ~ and be glad in it!

Not much going on around here, with the exception of getting ready for the upcoming fisheree that the JPD Warrior Project puts on every year.  I need to sit down and get a grocery list in order, meat and buns need to be ordered, coffee, hot chocolate, cups, napkins, condiments taken care of, etc...  We serve a ton of food that day ... literally! ... chili, hot dogs, hamburgers, bratwurst, baked beans, chips, cookies and bars to name a few AND I need to make pies for the auction. It's too soon to start cooking and baking ~ that all happens the day before and the day of ... but having the shopping part behind us helps.

~ our new trailer ~

This Friday we'll be having another committee meeting at my house for the Kid's Carnival that we added to the program this year.  We have some really fun things planned for the little ones this year.  Like a Fish Toss, the Ice Bowl, Walleye Sucker Tree and Ice Golf ~ to name a few ... and LOTS of PRIZES!!

I made this poster to hang on the picture board this year.  It's some of the pies that I made last year for the auction.  It's always a fun event.

Yes... we have some busy days ahead ... getting ready for the 6th Annual Justin Donner Memorial Fisheree ~ but they are all for a good cause, bringing awareness to the seriousness of a terrible illness associated with depression  ... suicidal thoughts.  Yes, suicidal thoughts are an illness.  That illness is depression and there is help.  Don't be ashamed to talk to someone or seek medical attention.   EVERY STATE has a suicidal hot line and there are trained professionals ready to assist you.

Don’t Quit
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
when the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with it’s twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out:
So don’t give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far.

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit,
It’s when things seem  worse
That you must not quit.

  2. Wow. Great cause for all of your work. I'd bid on several of your pies in a heartbeat if I thought I could get 'em here to Texas while they're fresh and in one piece! :)

  5. Wonderful fundraiser, Mel. I remember when you had it last year. How much profit do you usually make to help with Suicide Prevention?

Good Luck.. I'm proud of you.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  6. What a wonderful thing you guys and gals do. You are giving so much of yourselves. If those with this illness could stop and think about your care I'm sure it would lift them out of the self-destructive stage. You are instruments in God's hands.

  7. All that is said or done to save a life is worth it. I have never heard of JPD. It is wonderful you are doing this event. I wish you a great turn out to raise money. The poem is wonderful. Blessings!

  8. RE: EVERYONE ~ thank you for your great comments and encouraging words! Betsy ~ you ask how much we make? Every year since our induction of doing this we have more than doubled our profits. Last year it was over $10,000.00!! The money that we make goes right back into the program. We host motivational speakers and publications for our school district ... adding new schools each year! Our goal - to expand across the country to ALL the school districts!! We make monthly donations to the Lord's Cupboard food pantry, monthly donations to the Time Out and Abuse Shelter, monthly donations to the Corner Rock Youth Center ~ making it possible for our kids to have a safe place to gather, we have been able to annually provide scholarships to students wishing to continue their education in the fields of Psychology and Human Understanding ... the list goes on ... and it's grows as we've grown.

It's a challenge physically and emotionally ... but it's for such a worthy cause. Like I had mentioned in my post ~ If we can save just one life - mission accomplished!!

  10. Mel, this is such a great entry. The cause is admirable and your work, along with the rest is heart-warming. You all do a great job, it must give you great satisfaction.

That was sorta funny about Slim bidding on your pie last year, at least when he found out who baked it, HE KNEW IT WOULD BE GOOD!

    I love Slims Hat.

Take care and Yes, this is the day the Lord has made!!

Love from Florida, boat is in the water, fishing in themorning, but never expect to catch anything like y'all have hanging!

  15. What a wonderful cause. I think at times a lot of "normal" "grounded people" think of suicide when they are at their lowest.
