big birds ~

Sesame Street has it's Big Bird ... and I have mine ... the eagles, ravens and hawks :)

They fly down to dine on the beaver carcasses that we had from trapping season. We put them out in the woods to discard of them; and put a trail camera on them to see what cleans them up.   To save you the displeasure of seeing the gory beavers I tried to crop and clone them out of the pictures ... and just leave the birds ... thus the reasoning for some of the funky looking ground they are standing upon.

I was hoping to get some pictures of wolves, coyotes, bobcats or bear ~ but the card filled up fast with hundreds of photos of crows and ravens flying past it ... oh well ... it is what it is.

I think this one is a juvenile red tail hawk ... but not sure.  I do know it's some kind of hawk though and not a juvenile eagle by it's beak and the white feathers on it's legs.  It's also a bit smaller than the female or juvenile eagles.
notice the difference ... this is a juvenile eagle ... note the heavier beak and brown leg feathers ~
nice wing span ~

The eagles and hawks are such awesome birds and I feel very privileged to be able to see them flying over the house on a daily basis and to be able to capture them in the wild on the trail camera when I can.

The following three photos are from two years ago ... I just thought I'd share them again ~ just because I can :)

Until next time ...
So it goes in my neck of the woods.

  2. They are beautiful. Good thing to do with the unwanted meat. I imagine the critters are glad to get them following winter. Helen

Loved the pictures, I always get a kick out of the trail cameras. I had never heard of them until I started reading the Northern Girl's blogs.

I have learned a lot since first seeing a blog called 'Up North with Mel'

  9. Mello, You captured some awesome shots of the 'big birds' of our northwoods. The hawk is so cool- I think he/she must be one of those delinquents, like Jack thinks. I still love the Eagle with it's head cocked, and the one with his back to the camera. You need to paint that one on that black beaver pelt...so cool.
