musky ~

Congratulations to my brother Eric on a fine catch!  A 48 inch 25 lb. musky.

Where did he catch it?
Right in the lip! lol

He said his bait was laying in it's mouth sideways right between the two bigger teeth.
You know those fisherman ... can't divulge too much information.

This one sure had small teeth ... I wonder why?  Maybe it was a big for it's age youngster.  I really don't know anything about aging fish or really to care to know that information.  I'm just happy for my brother on such a fine catch and can't wait until the night he said he was going to have us over for stuffed musky on the grill.  I haven't had a meal of that for years.  Probably about 15 years ago when my brother in law Jeff used to fish musky and grilled one up one day when we were camping.

Have you ever been bitten by a musky?  I have ... and trust me ... it's not a very fun situation when you're swimming across a river and have one come up and take a swipe at your thigh ... decides you're way too big for a meal ... but still leaves scrape marks with it's teeth ... leaves you bleeding like a stuck pig ... and you still have half a river's width to navigate.  Dah Da Dah Dah .... Dah Da Dah Dah ... the theme music from Jaws is echoing in your brain ... also you have a 12 year old kid swimming with you who just minutes before said, "Aunt Mel, could we get bit by a musky swimming across the river?"  and I just finished telling him the odds of that are like getting hit by lightning.

Until next time ....

Friday

summertime fun ~

Dear Hubby and I managed to catch a few ball games this week.  Here's our second oldest Grandlove ... Brooke, age 13...
and our youngest Grandlove, Bailey, age 6 ...

Last night after the games we visited Movrich Park in Fifield on the way home and took a little swim to cool down.
Movrich Park is a nice little place on the south fork of the Flambeau River.  It runs right through the edge of the town of Fifield, which is four miles south of Park Falls and four miles east from our place.

There are two bridges, the north bridge which crosses on State Hwy. 70 and then the old south bridge a block down.  The swimming area is between the bridges, below the rock and water falls.

There's a nice little landing there for canoeist and for going in for a swim.  People like going up stream and sitting on the rocks.

It's murky and muddy in places on the bottom; not the best place for little ones to swim - but fun for the older ones.

The park does have a nice new playground for the little ones.

the rocks...

Brooke and Veronica fighting the current trying to get up to the rocks ...

... they made it ...

... now to jump back in and float the river current back down ...

and do it again and again ...

and again ... here comes Kayla ...

Yes... they were having fun!  Slim and I even did the current float a few times.  But I must admit ~ I don't have the stamina nor does Slim anymore to keep up with those kids.  They're like a family of otter out there in that water.

Even Bailey went swimming ...

She wouldn't go near the current and the rocks this time ... she stayed closer to her Mom and shallower waters.  Last week she went up on the rocks with her Uncle Sam and came down the current and I think she got a little scared.  She said she was never swimming again!

BFF's
Veronica and Brooke

Brooke didn't believe me when I told her I got a picture of her "bear butt" ...

Summertime fun.
Until next time ...

Good morning crows ...

Who's this sneaking around the back yard?

Good morning young Mr. Buck ...

You better not be up to what I think you're up to ...

... oh you little bugger ... I know where you're heading ...

... straight over to the varigated dogwood bush that I see you already ate half of ...

... a forever going battle ...

You win!

Monday

Concert4aCause aka. mudball fest ~

This weekend was the Concert 4 a Cause at the Butternut Park ~ co-sponsored by the JPD Warrior Project and the Relay for Life Butternut Butterflies / American Cancer Society.

It's an annual fund raiser for the organizations ...
food / raffles / music / tractor-horse pull / minnow races / games / kickball tournament / horseshoe tournament ... a lot of fun for all ages.  They had to cancel the tractor-horse pull because of the weather.

 ~ minnow races ~
you can blow on the minnow to make it go; but you can't touch it

One of the top entertainments this year was the kickball tournament.  Take some enthusiastic players ... add a little rain on to an already rain soaked baseball field ... and it's a mud ball fest !!  There was a LOT of slipping and sliding going on.

I don't think any of them minded the weather ... they were all having fun ...

Our team (the JPD Warriors) took second place ~
losing to the "clean team" the We've Got The Runs - yes ... that's the name of their team ...

the hand shakes and high fives amongst captains and players ...

a few nice "taps on the back" for a job well done ... "did you really think you were getting off that field in a clean shirt??"

does anybody have some shampoo?

~ the cousins on opposing teams ~
laughing their heads off

a little mud wrestling
Who's the dirty one now ??...
... looks like you "Catman"... lol
Oh oh ... I see trouble brewing amongst our crew ...

What are those girls up to ... besides laughing hysterically ...
I don't think anyone is going home clean ...

There was a lot of laughs and it was ton's of fun ... thankfully I was only a spectator :)

Until next time ...
