touching ~

Sometimes I see a movie or hear a song and it really touches me  Last night I watched My Own Love Song.  Talk about a double whammy ~ the movie AND the music really got me.  If you haven't seen it yet ... you might want to consider it and see for yourself.

I remember my Dad and Uncle Merlin singing this song one night around the campfire. They were both veterans of WWII.  Those two brothers liked to joke around with the best of them; but sometimes they would really throw you for a loop ... such as the night they sang this song with as much love and compassion for this country as imaginable as Renee sang it in the movie ~ and hearing it again REALLY overwhelmed my emotions.

Until next time ...
So it goes in my neck of the woods.

  3. Sounds great, BUT ain't it great when something brings back such wonderful times in ones life. I love the description your mom gave of your dad. "He was the man I picked to be the father of my children".
Evidently the lady was not wrong. You guys speak of your dad with such reverence. I love it.

Take care up in the North Woods, I think that is where Little Red Riding Hood was from. I heard of a big bad Wolf there called Slim!

  5. Renee does that song proud. I love her rendition. Dad and Uncle Merlin sure did love their country, we saw it everyday of our lives with them and by the honest, hardworking way they taught each of us. How I miss them both. We were so blessed to have them in our lives. They helped to mold us into the kind of folks we are now teaching our own and theirs, to be.
Thanks for this fond entry, Mel.

  6. I was wondering what song it would be and as I started to listen I got all choked up. Sure do miss Dad and Uncle Merlin. As a matter of fact we were just talking about them both today.
