pickled out ~
I know there's a phrase 'in a pickle' or 'being pickled' but is there one that's 'pickled out'? Well now there is ... and I'm it. I'm pickled out.
I made so many jars of pickles in the last few weeks I don't want to even see another cucumber ~ let alone put it into a jar with some vinegar, water and spices and turn it into a pickle! If there's going to be any more pickling being done around here ... it'll be me getting pickled :)
I made bread and butter pickles, refrigerator pickles, Mom's recipe dill pickles, Mrs. Wages recipe dill pickles, Suzie's recipe dill pickles, my recipe dill pickles, I even pickled some fish.
I made jars of pickles for my kids, for their kids, and probably enough for their kids kids. I made pickles for the guys at the mill to snack on at break time, pickles for Uncles and Aunts that don't plant cucumber plants anymore, pickles for the guy in the cabin, pickles for his wife too, pickles, pickles, pickles!!
I still need to make some pickled beets; but they'll just have to wait a week.
Don't even get me started on zucchini.
Until next time ...
So it goes in my neck of the woods.

ha ha! i can imagine your hands and kitchen smells like dill and vinegar! :)
ReplyDeleteNever known a person to put up so many kinds of pickles. I never noticed that many.
ReplyDeleteMama had sweet pickles and dill or something, but I did love them.
I know everyone there that gets some, will love them. I like to snack on pickles, especially the crunchy ones..
Love from down here.

Love those sweet gherkins best of all. I'd give a nickle for a pickle right now!! ☻ I know you're tired of 'em now - but this winter, won't they be wonderful?!? Ahhhh, YES.
ReplyDeleteWow!! That is a lot of pickles. Don't even mention zucchini to me.
ReplyDeleteBet they are all delicious. Never heard of pickled fish though. Helen
ReplyDeleteHow about some pickled watermellon rind? All that pickle talk got me craving some. Awesome stash you have.

Kind of meant "watermelon". Cheech.

My grandkids would be your best friends!
ReplyDelete... and could definitely help you out of that pickle!
ReplyDeleteGood job, I guess our cukes would have done much better with more rain. But I did mangage to get a gallon of refrigerators and some dills done. As you said, beets next week along with carrots.
ReplyDeleteLove it all though.

You inspire me :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to get some 'dilly pickles' made, but have never made any other pickled veggie.
Now, I guess I'd better buy me some cucumbers :)
They look so good especially the bread and butter pickles. I bet you are pickled out. I love pickled beets. Mom made all of those. They never went to waste with a big family.
ReplyDeleteThey all look so yummy. I lost all but four cucumber plants to the dog along with the tom plants. I am now looking for cucumbers to pickle. To bad I could not stop by for a basket full. Beets sound so yummy too. Blessings!

Man, you had a few...we have lots of slicers and have made the refrigerator pickles, but that's about it...oh, and relish. Good thing I have a few jars of dills left from last fall.
ReplyDeleteI'll be over mid-winter to munch a bunch~

I was hoping for enough cukes to do some bread and butter pickles up this year. No such luck. It was all around too cold this year. I got all of one cucumber off of about 10 plants!
