garden fest~

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all you wonderful Daddy's out there!!!

Sam and G'pa

My post today is about the same as it was for my sisters Darla and Cheryl about our Dad :)
He was truly loved by many and is missed by many too.  We were blessed to have him all the years we did before the Good Lord called him home.

Also, as Dar had posted ~ we (myself, Darla and my daughter Staci) took a road trip yesterday to the Cable Garden Fest.  It was a wonderful way to spend the day if you're into plants:) especially succulents ~ they have tons of them.

Just thought I'd share a few snapshots from the day:

the waterfall I WISH I had

... some of the lupines we saw along the highway ~

they are blooming in the ditches ~ and are so pretty

Staci ~ admiring the lupines
from a distance and upclose

~ I can't recall the name of this succulent; but I'm sure Dar knows it.  I know Staci bought one of these plants ~ I'll have to check with her.  Or you can see it for yourself over at Simply Succulents website.  Check them out ... they have an awesome place!

I just love the hypertufa pots sitting around this place.

I wonder if I can get Dear Hubby to build me an arbor THIS BIG!

Such a pretty color combo ... the patriot hosta with the maiden hair fern and the purple coleous.

Everywhere you look ... there are little succulent plants and sedums tucked into the rocks.  Each sporting unique and interesting features.

There are THOUSANDS!!! of succulent plants to choose from at this nursery ... very cool :)

They even sell topiary turtles!

Yes ~ it was a wonderful way to spend the day:)

Watching my baby taking pictures ...

... and waving to her and Dar amongst the flowers.

Until next time ...
So it goes in my neck of the woods.

  1. Love what you have done to the top photo!

  2. Loved the pictures of the lupine and that waterfall. I would like to have that waterfall too, not in my yard (as I don't have a garden that it would look nice in) but someplace nearby that I could go see it from time to time!

  3. Loved all your pictures including the one of your Dad. Helen

  4. i would have been in those lupines along with Staci. :)

  5. Beautiful! Hope you are all enjoying Father's Day.

  6. We sure did have a great role model growing up with our Dad. Thanks for sharing the pic of he and Sambo as a wee one.
Now, I didn't see that purple coleus with the maidenhair fern OR the turtle...and we were together for the most part....hh,hmmmmmmm, you PROMISED, and you did it anyway...let me look and see if I can find that dulcimer shot...

  7. Anyone knowing your family or reading these blogs knows, without a doubt, that your dad was a wonderful man and loved by not only his family but many more.

Sam is so cute (and so little! wow!) Love the pictures and a special place in my heart for Lupines. When we were hiking in Maine the State decided to erradicate all wild Lupines because they weren't indigenous to Maine. They grow there as you have shown them here. Beautiful. Well the Mainers rebelled and the state had to 'rethink', it was a victory for common sense.

Anyway this is a good entry and we love you so much lady!!
Thanks for the beautiful shots, especially the lupines.

  8. Those lupines make awesome ditch weeds. I do love succulents so I would have loved that place. Hope you get your arbor. That one is perfect. Arkansas Patti

  9. Some purty posies!!! (Yes, I DO know how to spell, but my Grandma always said that). What a nice photo tribute to your Dad.

  10. are ya scaret, DeeDee? I'm thinking about it! What to do, what to do. I already forgaveya! LOL

  11. What a great entry. So pretty. Believe me when I say I would not dare go in there. If I had the money I would have a ball and Joe would have a fit. Plan to be on more now that my knee is slowly healing. If I can get the mystery plant out of my camera I will post it sometime today. I KNOW WHAT IT IS AND YOU WILL KNOW kit as soon as you look at it. A squirrel had to have buried it in that barrel.

  12. Just a great entry. Nice tribute to your father. I will be on a little more since Joe forced my knee to feel better with his handyman orders. He had me up and down. Will keep it wrapped. Them Wed. at 4 they will do Ron's surgery. They came by to check on us yesterday. Ron knows he is going to be housebound for about4 weeks. He will not be able to work in his shop for about 4 months.

  13. Beautiful tribute to your dad! Love all the pictures you've posted. Thanks for sharing your trip with us :)
    Have a great week!

  14. ohh what a sweet post and what lovely flowers! and my mother in law would LOVE that turtle!

  15. I too love how you did that first photo. The trick?

  16. I sometimes get overwhelmed with how blessed I am. We as a family were truly blessed with our parents and upbringing. I love that pic of Dad & Sam. I'm thinking I should just move home next summer so I don't miss out on anything. LOL
'love & hugs from afar' your old' sis
