hoarders and clean house ~

This morning I got an early start ... headed to town to get the taxes done, only to find out I arrived a half hour earlier than the office opened.  So... I headed a little further down the road and went to visit my sister and snagged a cup of coffee from her :)

She was sitting there all snuggled up in her blanket in the recliner watching the telly.  She had on HGTV and and the show Clean House was on.  In my opinion ... that show ranks right up there with Hoarders.

Why doesn't HGTV just tell those people they are crazy ... instead of rewarding them for living in such filth!

At least the Hoarders show brings in doctors to address their mental illness ... which doesn't seem to do much help.  I bet you could go back into those homes a year later and they would be right back in the same condition.

It doesn't matter if you are rich or poor ... no one ... no matter where you reside ... be it in a big old mansion or a tent in the woods there is no excuse for living in a squalid condition.

Now, I'm by no means advocating that I'm a clean freak ~ far from it.  My house gets dirty too from every day living; but it doesn't get filthy.  There's a big difference there.  I might have the occasional sliver of cheese slip away in the back of the refrigerator and it decide to become a science project growing a beautiful mossy colored mold before I get to it.  AND Please don't get me started on the dreaded dust bunnies that live here and reproduce as fast as the real rabbits.

I'm just saying ... if you have access to water ... you have access to cleanliness.  HGTV - go buy those people some soap and tell them to get up off their lazy butts and clean it up! Stop rewarding them.  Instead of sending them off to a posh hotel while someone else has to clean up behind them ... put a mop and broom in their hand and make them break a sweat! Now that I'd watch.  If they had to clean it themselves maybe... just MAYBE they would have a little pride in their accomplishment and would keep it that way.

Just my opinion :)

Until next time ...
So it goes in my neck of the woods.

  1. It is good that you don't live near us. 2 doors down you can not believe the outside with stuff everywhere in the yard. By that I mean anything from old chairs furniture a pile of of stuff with a tarp thrown over it. That does not even cover the lower part of the yard. Inside , they won't let anyone in and the smell is enough you do not want to go in. They have 3 rentals across the alley

  2. I think a lot of people get on these shows just to get a free upgrade or whatever to there home. Line the ones who are on "Sell This House". I think some of them just want the free upgrades to their kitchens, bathrooms, etc. and then never really put their house on the market to be sold.

  3. I agree 100 percent! Television and its so called 'reality' shows are a joke. We have over 100 channels and still nothing really worthy of watching. Who's the fool for paying for it? I know, I know - We are!!

  4. I have only watched part of that program once. It was enough. I was invited into one once, while I was looking for firewood, I had to go in to find the seller, he was drunk and I could hardly recognize him from the trash. Btu I did give him $5 for some fire wood.

I cannot imagine ANYONE even distantly connected with mama 'O's family, living like that.

Love you girl, hope you got the taxes done. and are getting a million dollars back.

  5. After cleaning John's closet this morning I think he has a little "hoarder" in him. He must have over 50 of those "gimme caps". Once I put them all in order according to color. That lasted about a day so today I just pitched them up into the large box they call home.

  6. When I've seen shows like that, I always thank my lucky stars that mine isn't that bad! However, it certainly could be, because I hoard everything.

  7. You are so right Mel. My husband watches them shows sometimes but I can't stand how dirty and messy and people living in it. I think most of them are just too lazy to clean up.

  8. I don't know how anybody can live like that. Just laziness I think.

  9. I guess sometimes things get away from folks after being sick, disabled or what not. Such a shame. I don't fault them. If someone is out there to get their lives back on track, that's a good thing. But to put it on TV and pay them is a different story. I agree with you.

  10. I often wonder why TV rewards poor behaviors by people and why other people want to watch it! I kinda like some of the competition shows (thought there is a lot of forced drama and brats there too), but some of it is just too ridiculous. Never watched Clean House

  11. You are right about there being no excuse for living in a filthy house. I have to be careful what I say though, as I live in a glass house. ☻ ☻ ☻

  12. Glad I was asleep when you came...I would have turned it off or switched it to Food Network. Now, there's some good eats on that one. We got talking and I did not even realize it was still airing...pun. Most the time my tv is on a country music channel or just on for noise over the highway.
sorry you had to get riled but you were absolutely right. The reality shows are getting as out of control as our government. Don't get me going. I'm sure glad my house was clean. lol :/
