365 bags ~

I have too much stuff!

I read where this gal is using her shopping bags for a new project she decided to undertake.

She's calling it 365 Bags.

Very simple concept.

There's 365 days in the year.
She uses 1 bag per day.

Each day she go through her house and finds something to toss.

If she buys something new ... something old HAS TO GO!

If you think about it ... this isn't too bad of an idea.  I think I'm going to give it a try.  I know I can find at least one thing a day to toss.  In fact, I think I could probably find a BAG FULL a day!

I'm really not into garage sales (I like going to them; but not putting them on) ~ but I know if I put the time and effort into it, it probably would be a profitable venture ... but just the thought of it makes me cringe.

Goodwill too ... love going to them ~ but super lazy here when it comes to getting stuff together for them ... or consignment shops ... there too ... I admit ~ I'm lazy.

I give stuff away - but there's still way too much clutter in my life.

My goal - once a day ... give something a toss!

Who has a junk drawer?  I have several of them :)  Probably a good place to start.

I may be the Domestic Diva of my Domain ~ but an organized one ... not!
I need to do some serious de-cluttering.

Until next time ...
So it goes in my neck of the woods.

  3. To the Diva!
It won't work. that is the negative answer.
    Dear Diva!
Do it. (If you really feel you should.)
Most folks collect 'stuff' and do not realize it. When we moved into a fully loaded motorhome, we made a policy, something in then something must go out. It did work for awhile, but we even find a way to cheat!

SERIOUSLY methinks 99% of Americans have too much stuff. We did hold a yard sale awhile back. It was a give-away yard sale, prices so low they could not be refused. It did clear out a lot.

Good luck on the 365 bags, really it is a good idea.

  6. It's the thought that counts, right? I just read a blog, can't remember who's, where she cast one item a day...I'm already 22 days behind, but I did find some broken toys that got tossed...the boys will never miss them and their grandpa's torn shirts just went into the rag bag. It's a good thing, Martha...keep at it...I expect to see 365 bags piled in the garage corner by Dec.31st...lol YOU can do it.
Even Jack's give-away sale is a lot of work...but I just may do that one. Notice: I said 'may'

  7. Good luck, you should really consider a rummage sale. Its easy just put the kitchen stuff with the kitchen stuff. You can buy pre-marked stickers at Wal or K mart They work terrific!!! Have it on a holiday weekend Our was a success on Memorial Day and let me tell you we had lots of stuff!!!

  9. Great idea.
We're in the process of doing some serious early Spring cleaning in our storage room. It's mind boggling how much stuff we have that needs to be thrown away or stored away.

  10. Good for you, Mel! I posted last Friday over at the blog about doing this, too. I went through our entire home last year, including the attic, and really did more of a purge than decluttering. But because it took me several months and I did go ahead and do two yard sales from all that I no longer used, I decided to never let it get ahead of me again like that! And you are right...yard sales are just TOO much work! Even though I did my pricing as I set items aside, it was then setting up, tearing down, etc. I had two and they were my first and last! So, now as I come across something that I'm not using or it doesn't have a sentimental value to it, I just put it in the give away box...which for me is taking it to Good Will. Enjoy your time...and stop on over on Friday's if you'd like just to see what some of us are doing. :-) Feel free to join right in!

  11. How about put something in a bag every day and then drop it off at the thrift shop once amonth or so? That might work for you.
