re-construction~

What's going on at my house ... well not much ... but ... just down the trail and through the woods at Mom's house there's a lot of destruction to re-construction going on.

Dear Hubby, and son, and the brothers, and brother-in-law are doing something that is long overdue ~ residing the house, or I should say ~ houses.

They already have the majority of the cabin done ... just a little trim work still needed:

and now on to the main house:

The siding on the back side of the house is old ... I mean ... really old.   The old part of the house was there when my folks bought the place .... it has to be at least 100 years old.  The old siding is redwood.  Now there are no redwoods in my neck of the woods.  I imagine it came on train to Wisconsin probably from Washington state ... who knows from where or when?  The guys are trying to salvage some of the old wood that they can.  Mom says it'll make dandy kindling for her fire box ... which it will ... I think it'll make some nice picture frames and other craft projects.

They are putting on new wood siding ~ because Mom doesn't like the look of vinyl ... she doesn't want her place to look like everybody else ... so... like the saying goes, "what momma wants ... momma gets" because "if momma ain't happy ... ain't nobody happy".  The wood siding that is going on is sheets that are 4'x8' and 4x9's with a wood grain; but they aren't chincey... they're pretty heavy ... and have a 50 year warranty.  So they should last a long time... longer than Mom I imagine ... she's 81.

They are also replacing all the windows and doors in the house.  The main house will also get painted then like the cabin.

They already did the roof ~ last spring.  All in all ... it's a big project and we're just praying that the weather holds out to get it finished before it snows.  So if you're in the neighborhood ... grab a hammer and a paint brush and come on over.  The more the merrier!  I guarantee ... Mom will find something for you to do. lol  She said if anyone is standing around more than five minutes just to visit she's no longer considering you a visitor; but a worker and she will put you to work!  I'm not kidding.

Don't forget to check out today's recipe on my new cooking blog ~ pumpkin cake w/cream cheese frosting

Until next time...
So it goes in my neck of the woods.

  5. The house will be beautiful! Looks like the same thing I used on the exterior of the room I added on to the cabin. Hope to finish it all with that before next winter.

Love the wood siding, too late I know, but I wouldn't have minded working for Mama, if she paid in friendship and food!!!!

Take care and don't push yourself too much. LIke you I see some great projects with the old redwood.
