We headed south ~ north of the town of Athens, WI .. about an hour and half drive from our place to check out some of the farmer's markets. We stopped in at one of our favorite places, Morning Glory Farms. It's a Mennonite family that runs it and I have become a very fond patron of their place. Everything is always so fresh and so reasonable priced.
We picked up some tomatoes, squash ($1.00 a piece no matter what variety or size... I got carnival acorn, an orange hubbard, butternut and buttercup), green peppers, onions, corn, giant kohlrabi (so sweet and tender), muskmelon and watermelon.
Now this morning I'm cooking off a batch of stewed tomatoes to can ... tomatoes, green pepper, onion and celery mix. I love having this on hand during the winter months to add to my chili.
We didn't do a big garden this year ~ and it sure is nice to have a place like Morning Glory to go to for fresh veggies ... even if it's a little drive to get there. It's sooooooooooo worth it!
I also picked up a beauty ~ a rack of pork ribs that I'm precooking in the oven for an hour then will finish off on the grill tonight for supper.
I wish computers had smellavision ~
my kitchen smells wonderful right now and I'd love to share it with you!
~~~Do you know what you get when you totally neglect a flower bed?
Grass and Blooms!!
My poor nasturiums just refuse to let the weeds choke them out.
Until next time...
So it goes in my neck of the woods.
Oh yeah, I"m drooling! First the pumpkin cake and now ribs and stewed tomatoes smelling up the place :) Thanks for sending the Italian Wedding Soup recipe, I made it yesterday (with your favorite - beet greens) and it was a hit.
ReplyDeleteI think I can smell your kitchen just from looking. Hummm good.
ReplyDeleteWell I guess you are back to your normal nasty self! And even wanting to add Smell to the delicious looking pictures!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so delicious!!!! Yeah I can nearly smell the ribs.
Sounds like a great place to shop. Back home it is hard to determine until you get home, if the person selling the goods got them in a box from mexico, and put them out or if they had grown them. It would be nice to know!
Take care of the back, I could eat that soup looking stuff with some corn bread!.
Love from POKATELLO, IDAHO! Now we are gonna look for some potatoes. There is a potato expo here gonna look it up!
I wish we had smellavision too. That all looks really scrumptious and all your photos are enough to want me to come over to your place for dinner :) I like the sound of your farmer's market
Your veggie pics look so good. One thing though, we don't put any veggies in our chili other than the chili peppers and beef.
I had a wonderful experience with Mennonites years ago when they helped me after a flood. They are very special and giving group.
ReplyDeleteThose veggies look delish, had to skip over the ribs as I am still pre-breakfast.
That African Daisy has an awesome blossom.
Now that I am drooling all over my keyboard will havre to go find me a crust of bread. Lol
